Currently in Third Grade Literacy we are reading about disasters. We have read a non-fiction book and an article about the Titanic, a historical fiction/non-fiction book about Pompeii, an article about Mt Saint Helens, and today a story about a volcano in Mexico called "El Monstruo". Next week we read about the Great Molasses Explosion in Boston. We will still have 2 weeks before vacation, so the kids are going to read a Magic Tree House book. They can choose from Tonight on the Titanic, Vacation Under the Volcano, or Earthquake in the Early Morning about non-weather related disasters. They are looking forward to this (because they love me) and so I am preparing by reading all the books to generate questions and vocab. Fun for me.

Very nice, the great molasses flood... I posted on that a few days ago (the 85th anniversary) I was just saying hi since you are one of the rare Vermont people on this crazy thing... and since the Barenaked Ladies are musical geniuses.
Betcha get into the books as much as the kids do! Kudos to you for being a creative & caring teacher! (Another one of life's professions not given enough credit!) *hugs*
